Back to School: Let’s get Comfortable with the Facts

by BrandSource Canada

At BrandSource, we have done our homework! Here’s an interesting fact: the Twin XL mattress is making a comeback thanks to Millennials. Dorm rooms are notorious for having mattresses that often are too small for taller millennials because of limited space. It’s hard to get a good night’s rest when your toes are dangling over the edge or you’re curled up like a pretzel. The Twin XL is the solution providing an extra 6 inches in length yet still small enough for most confined spaces.

More and more consumers are also choosing to buy longer beds, solving tricky logistical issues of fitting a bed into tight spaces. Whether you are a millennial off to college, or a baby boomer ready to downsize to apartment living, the Twin XL is the obvious choice. With dozens of unique Twin XLs available on, consumers of all ages can breathe a sigh of relief knowing there is a bed crafted just for them.

A single, also called a twin mattress, is the smallest size available, other than a crib, measuring approximately 39 inches wide by 74 inches long. Singles are typically designed to fit into tight spaces, for children coming off of cribs, and some seniors who have that preference.

Alternatively, the Twin XL is approximately 6-inches longer, depending on the brand. A slender person standing 6' 5" will fit comfortably in this bed. Additionally, the size and shape of the bed will allow for many versatile configurations around the room. With a long and narrow mattress, you can easily negotiate tight stairwells in most dorm buildings and fit through narrow doors.  If however, you prefer a roomier bed, it’s best to start your search in the double or queen size aisle.
